Workmen's Insurance/Group Personal Accident Insurancee

Introduction to insurance for Employees/Staff
1.1 Workmen's Compensation Insurance

This is also called Employers' Liability insurance. The intention of the product is to cover your legal liability as an employer in line with the requirements of the laws of Republic of South Sudan for injury, disability, occupational illness or death of employee arising out of and in the course of employment.

  • The policy provides indemnity for legal liability for:-
    1. bodily injury to or death, occupational illness sustained by any person under a contract of service or apprenticeship with the insured;
    2. and caused during the period of insurance;
    3. arising out of and in the course of their employment by the insured;
    4. in connection with the trade or business; and
    5. occurring within territorial limits of south Sudan.
  • The cover is mostly applicable for working hours for injuries/death to your employees arising out of work assigned to them. It is more appropriate for junior staff and other manual laborers, technicians, carpenters, construction workers, etc.
  • It covers a capital sum in case of death, partial and permanent disability and limited medical expenses, but all arising out of accidental bodily injury. Capital sum is 3 to 3.5 years salary of the employee according to the Work Injuries Act 1968 which is still applicable in the Republic of South Sudan.
  • Your policy can be arranged either on "named" basis, if you want to insure certain employees only, or on an "un-named" basis, for all your employees in the payroll. Under the named basis policy you will be required to provide the names of the employees, their age, category of work and their annual earnings. While under the un-named basis policy you will be required to provide the category of work (Administrative/clerical, drivers, guards etc.), the estimated number of employees within that category and their total estimated annual earnings. The amount of medical expense may be increased subject to additional premium.

    You may use the following table to provide the information required:

    Named Basis Policy

    Name of Employee Age Category of Work Annual Earning

    Un-named Basis Policy

    Category of Work Estimated No. of Employees Category of Work Total Annual earnings Maximum Earning of Employee

    The sum assured can be discussed and is generally based on either a three year or five year earnings for each employee.

    Indicative premium rates: - depends on capital sum chosen to be advised on submission of completed proposal form

1.2 Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance

This is highly recommended than the Workmen's Compensation (Employers' Liability) policy because:-

  • It is a benefit policy and no legal liability is required before cover is activated;
  • It avoids the need to prove whether the accident was caused during work and arising out of work related duties;
  • It provides a wider cover for your staff, 24 hrs a day for death or bodily injury arising out of accidents in accordance to the terms and conditions of our standard GPA standard policy, whether they are at work or otherwise, provided accident occurs within the Republic of South Sudan.
  • The policy can be extended to cover your liability as employer in accordance with the relevant laws of the Republic of South Sudan.
  • The policy can be arranged either on "named" basis, if you want to insure certain employees only, or on an "un-named" basis, for all your employees in the payroll.
  • The product can serve a real purpose in also motivating your employees at work in the knowledge that the risk to their life by accident is taken care of by management.

The capital sum (sum assured) can be discussed and is generally based on a 1 year, 3 year or 5 year earnings for each employee. Cover is for death, partial and permanent disability and limited medical expenses (SSP 2,000 per person), but all arising out of accidental bodily injury. Minimum rates will depend on an SSP 20,000 benefit.
